In Tribute to Rabbi Sherwin T. Wine January 25, 1928-July 21, 2007
On July 21, 2007, Rabbi Sherwin T. Wine, our beloved founder of Humanistic Judaism, died in a terrible car accident while vacationing in Morocco with his partner, Richard McMains. The driver of the taxicab was also killed. Rabbi Wine was 79. Richard McMains suffered multiple injuries.
The City Congregation for Humanistic Judaism extends its heartfelt condolences to Richard McMains, Rabbi Wine's partner of 29 years; to Rabbi Wine's sister, Lorraine Pivnick, and her husband Ben Pivnick; to Rabbi Wine's niece and member of The City Congregation, Elyse Pivnick, and her family; and to her sister, Billie, and her family, former members of The City Congregation.
The family of Rabbi Sherwin T. Wine has suggested that contributions in his memory be directed to support the Secular Humanistic Jewish Movement he established.
They have selected the 21st Century Fund, which benefits the International Institute for Secular Humanistic Judaism, the Society for Humanistic Judaism and the Birmingham Temple. Donations may be made payable to the 21st Century Fund and sent to:
